Yukon Quest Recap

Tagish Lake, Yukon Territory

Canada

This weekend I caught up with veteran musher Michelle Phillips at her kennel in historic Tagish Lake, Yukon Territory.  Michelle had just completed the roughly 1,000 mile Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.  The competition pits mushers and their dog teams against unbelievably challenging conditions, but not just the weather.  The further north you go, the less light there is in the winter, so these athletes spend a majority of their time in the dark.  Also, they race a thousand miles over a ten to twelve day stretch, meaning sleep is exceptionally rare.  Between sleep deprivation, frigid temperatures and long stretches of pitch black skies, Michelle certainly had her work cut out for her. She finished fourth overall, what a performance!  True Fleece is a proud sponsor of Michelle and her team of amazing dogs.  Check out our post-race interview at https://youtu.be/EK5i-HkkCFw.
